Oak Park Art Sub

Hello! Thank you for covering my classroom.  Here are some resources that will be helpful during your time here in the Oak Park Art room.  Please reach out if you have any questions or something isn't clear. My cell number is 515-210-3731. There is coffee, tea, hot chocolate behind the curtain next to my desk, candy in the upper gray desk door, and a microwave and mini fridge. Please make yourself comfortable and thank you again for being here!

Some small details:

Please meet kids in the hallway when class starts, this is their signal to enter the room.

Please clean up five minutes before the end of class to give kids time to put things away.

They have to finish their assigned activity before they can choose centers.

Please reward with Panda Paws (top left drawer)  when kids are doing their job. There are refills in the office.

Where things are:

My desk has most things labeled. All tubs the the left of my desk and behind my desk are my teacher set. Please don't  let students use them.

electric pencil sharpener Behind you. Please sharpen pencil for the students.  They have broken 2 heavy duty electric sharpeners. There are hand sharpeners in the bottom left side drawer they can use independently and return to you at the end of class.

Basics like scissors, glue sticks, pencils, markers, pencils, colored pencils, crayons, clip boards, and scratch paper are by the sink and all the kids know to grab them when they want them and put them away independently. Kindergarten and 1st grade are NOT allowed to use markers.

I have made new seating charts for ALL groups.  I have talked to ALL groups about how subs do things their way and their job is to be flexible and understanding.  They shouldn't be arguing with you or telling you how I do it unless you ask. There are original copies of these in the sub binder, and copies on my clipboard.

Students are allowed to choose centers (3 kids per center to be played on the carpet) or create at a table.  The art supplies they can use are all located by the sink.

If you choose students can bring computers and do some digital art or coding.  They can use the "paint" app on their computer, or if you want to let them get on the internet, we often visit artforkidshub.com or code.org and choose age appropriate activities or games.

See below for videos that show kids how to get to these websites.

To connect to the projector, enter "wireless" in your search bar. Select "connect to wireless display". Push the "connect" button and choose the one that ends in 550. Then choose the LAN button on the remote.  To toggle back and forth between the camera and your screen, you need to push the computer button at the top of the remote.

If you need other art supplies:

the large cabinets have all drawing supplies and refills like paper, pencils, markers, pastels, scissors, glue, tape, etc.  They are all labeled.

Watercolor paints, refills, and brushes are in the storage room.

All supplies for lesssons in the Sub Binder are available.  I specifically chose lessons based on the materials I already have.  If there's something you can't find, please call me and I will tell you where it should be.  If someone has used it, we can ask Leana in the office to order more.

There are certain things I do NOT lend out to other teachers, including my black cordless glue gun, my sewing machine, and any exacto tools.

If you are able or willing to teach grade level art lessons, the long term sub binder has lessons from our district curriculum.  These are separated into K-2 lessons and 3-5 lessons.  You can pick and choose which lessons you'd like to teach.  There are also blank planning sheets in the long term sub binder that you can use to keep track of where each class is with each lesson. These lessons are from Artof Ed.  If you need any resources printed please reach out to Mr. Hockman and I can email him whatever you need.  Just tell him the name of the lesson and the name of the resource.
